According to ISPA’s poll; 6 out of each 10 Iranian uses a social network
ISPA Public relations: Iranian students’ polling agency in a national survey in February 2016 polled people’s opinion on social networks. In this phone survey conducted with a sample of 1500 people, 72% of respondents lived in urban and 28% in rural areas, and 50% male. The average age of respondents is 38 years old. 61% of the sample graduated high school and below, and 39% had an academic education; 69% married, 27.5% single and 3.5% have been divorced or widowed
Comparing the results of ISPA’s recent survey with this center’s other survey results shows Telegram and Instagram social networks had increased in members, and other social networks have descended. According to ISPA’s survey 59.7% of people over 12 in the country have joined at least one social network, which comparing to November 2016 shows 7% increase. Males have 5% more activity than females in social networks, and ages 18-29 with 81% have the highest membership in social networks. Age groups 12-17 with 67%, 30-49 with 63% and over 50 years old with 25% are next. 84% of people with academic education join a social network, meanwhile people with a high school degree or below, have a participation rate of 44%. 55 out of every married person, and 77 out of every 100 singles join social networks, which controlling for the age factor turned out the difference between singles and married in social networks is completely based on respondents’ age, and is not related to their marital status
Among social networks, Telegram with 55% is still on top, and Instagram follows with 23%. WhatsApp 14%, Facebook 4%, Viber 2%, Google Plus 2%, Line 2%, Tango 1%, Twitter nearly 1% and WeChat under 1% were next. It’s worth mentioning, in ISPA’s survey last year 38% of people were using telegram, which compared to this year shows 17% increase. Also last year 17% of people joined Instagram which by a 6% incline, has reached 23%. Other social networks have shown decrease in membership rate. Social networks’ per capita use during 24 hours was 72 minutes per whole sample, and 120 minutes per users.
About the method, 90.8% of respondents which joined at least one social network claimed to use smart phones for social networking, then far about 10% claimed to use PC or laptop, and 4.2% use tablets. In this question the respondent could choose multiple options
