[ Important Findings of ISPA in 1396 [Mar 2017 – Feb 2018]

One of the main tasks and missions of Iranian Students Polling Agency (ISPA) is the continuous assessment of the public opinions. The following is the most important findings of the center in the year that passed. With this wish that by publishing the most important findings at the end of every year, have taken a new steps in the direction of policy, planning and futures for officials, experts, journalists, and the public.

    Estimation of the people’s participation in the 12’th round of presidential elections and vote estimation of candidates by less than one percent error-1

In addition to the year of 1395 (March 2016 – February 2017), Iranian Students Polling Agency (ISPA) from the beginning of 1396 (March 2017 – February 2018)  until the presidential election did 5 waves of national polling in the squares and streets of cities, and villages and 6 waves of the national polling conducted by telephone and through the examination of data just two days before the elections, the turnout of 72%, with 55% of the votes to Mr. Rohani in terms of participants, and in term participants who were said, they  have choose their candidate had 57%. The rate of Mr. Raisi's vote was also 38%. It is worth to note that both numbers were realized according to reality.

2- 3 out of 4 Iranians are in favor with Iran's presence in Syria and Iraq to confront ISIL.

One of the asked questions in regard to terrorist attack on Parliament was about Iran's presence in Syria and Iraq to fight the Islamic State. 73% of people on June 2017 were believed Iran should presence in Syria and Iraq to confront with ISIS.

3- 1 out of 4 Iranian do not trust on Governmental Banks

In September 2017 ISPA in a national polling about daily Issues of country, studied people's opinions about the private and the governmental banks. Findings indicated that 75% of Iranians have trust and confidence in the governmental banks, on the other hand only 19% ­ have trust in private banks.

4- 3 out of 5 Iranians are in favor to attendance of women in stadiums.

One of the issues in public opinion and policy in 1396 (March 2017 – February 2018) to allow women to enter the stadium, which has a lot of opponents and supporters. ISPA in September 2017 in a national polling asked people “are you agree or disagree with the presence of women in stadiums to watch sporting events?” 61.1% of respondents were in favor of attendance of women, the contribution rate is different between men and women. And this rate in the men was more than the women. 67.2% of the men and 57.8% of the women were in favor of the attendance of women in stadiums. The share of advocates in urban areas has more than rural areas.

5- Almost three out of every five people believed that what is important on top management positions is personal experience and capability, not gender.

In the first half of 1396 (May 2017 - August 2017) with the arrival of the new government, the presence of more women in top management posts were taken into account. ISPA for the views of people in this regard asked a question: “In the presence of women in top management positions there is a lot opinion, which view do you agree with?”

About 10 percent of the respondents believed that the women could not do the tasks as well as the men. The majority of respondents (68%) were believed that it’s not important to be man or woman, what is important is experience and capability of a person. About 18% of respondents indicated that a part of management positions should be left to women in all circumstances. 19.5% of men and 16.8% of women were in favor of that item.

6- From each 5 Iranians, three people believe that the implementation of the Nuclear Deal could provide the country's interests.

In September 2017 after the seventy-second session of the United Nations General Assembly, ISPA in a polling asked a question from citizens of over 18 years; "Do you hope the nuclear deal JCPOA to go ahead as Iran use its benefit?" 64.5% of the people were believed that the nuclear deal implementation can support the national interest.

 

7- People’s appeal to consumption of domestic goods

ISPA in October 2017 carry out a survey about the Resistive Economy in Tehran. According to the survey on the consumption of national products, the most welcoming domestic consumption accounted for 91% of the food products and the lowest at 31.5% was household appliances.

8- For the people, the amount of tax is not fair

According to the results of October polling of ISPA in Tehran, 58% of Tehran’s people believe that taxes help economy and payment of it is essential. On the other hand, 64.5% of Tehran’s people believe that the current taxes with respect to the income is not fair.

9- Three of each five Iranians are Telegram (Social Network) members.

According to various surveys and constant attention of ISPA to using of media, particularly social networks, 62% of Iranians use at least one social network. Also, 58% of the total population of Iran are a member of the Telegram. According to the results of the questions in a polling after the protests in January 2018, more than 70% of the Iranian people were against the social network filter during the protests.

10- Three out of four Iranians are dissatisfied with the current situation of the country.

In January 2018, after gatherings and protests, ISPA in an opinion polls asked people: “Are you generally satisfied with the situation of country?”

75% of people are dissatisfied with the country's current situation and the dissatisfaction rate among young people (18-29 years) is more than other age groups.

11- The most important concern in 1396 (Mar 2017 – Feb 2018)

 Due to results of an ISPA opinion poll in January 2017, more than 70% of the people who responded to this question; “What is the most important concern in your country?” The respond was economic issues such as inflation, unemployment, poverty and corruption.

12- People’s opinions about the protests on January 2018

 After the mass protests in January 2018, ISPA did a national opinion poll with a sample of 4499 people over the protests, which requested by Center of Presidential Strategic Studies. According to the findings, 40% of people believe that the protests addressed to the Executive Branch (Government) and 35% believe that protests addressed the Political System, but 60% believe this situation could be corrected by performing certain actions.

What was the expectation of the people in the face of the protests? 80% the Iranian people believe that System should talk with the protesters or accept their demands. 66% of people opposed to the involvement of officials from other countries. The performance of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting was good for only 22 % of people, and they believed that IRIB have transmitted the latest facts.

13- People's Opinions after December 19 earthquake in Tehran

In January 2018, ISPA investigated Tehran's earthquake from public opinions view. According to the findings of this plan, 73% of people in Tehran are afraid of a large earthquake in Tehran. This fear can be caused by several factors, including lack of trust in the strength of the buildings and also the readiness of the authorities to deal with these crises. 54% of Tehran’s people do not trust in the strength and solidity of their residential buildings. Also, 74% of Tehran’s people believe that the authorities are not prepared for a larger earthquake in Tehran. Generally, according to the responses, 25% of people in Tehran after September 19 earthquake have thought about migration from Tehran.

14- People are considered that the celebrities help to people of Kermanshah after earthquake was better than other institutions and organizations.

In December last year, after the earthquake in Kermanshah and actions of various organizations and institutions, ISPA asked Iranian people to response a question “As you know, about a month ago, a severe earthquake occurred in several cities of Kermanshah Province. How you evaluate the function of following institutions and organizations (Red Crescent, Army, IRGC, the Government and public figures such as artists, athletes and academics) to assist people in the affected areas. 69.5% of people said the celebrities’ actions was good. 64.5% said the Red Crescent’s jobs was good and 60.5% said the Army’s jobs was good. On the other hand, people prefer to help people in future crisis, at the first place, Red Crescent and at second place through direct assistance to the people themselves.
